» LIVING A LIFE OF DARKNESS-SCROLL 2

She woke up and looked around. It was an unfamiliar room and it took her a little bit before she realized her locations, David's house. She got out of bed and opened the door to the smell of something delicious coming from downstairs. She walked into the kitchen and saw David standing there cooking eggs on the stove. David turned around a smiled at her, "Did you sleep well?"

"Yes, I did, thank you so much for letting me use your extra room."

"Have a seat at the table, I'll have this ready soon." David said flipping the eggs in the pan.

"I'd love to stay and eat but I have to go, I have to meet...someone somewhere. I probably shouldn't have stayed last night, I'm sorry." And with that she headed for the door without letting David get in another word. He sighed.

David ate alone, again. He was sick of being alone, he was hoping that just maybe he would be lucky and the girl would fall madly in love with him and they'd live happily ever after, but David knew that would never happen. He just shook his head and headed over to his canvas. Painting for David was like a window in which to throw all his troubles out. He picked up his brush and paint palette and began to paint. Within an hour he had finished and stood back to look at it. It was the girl. David sat in his chair and stared at the painting. He knew something was...different about this girl. He just sat staring at the picture and smiled, the girl would come back, he didn't know how he knew. But he knew.

She reluctantly walked out the door of David's house. She knew she should have killed him, now she hadn't had blood in a whole night. She was feeling weak but the walk wasn't too far.

Her name was Mina, Mina Dracul. Her long black hair that cascaded down her back enveloped her pale face. She was tall for her age and definitely looked young for her age. Then again 129 years when you're a vampire doesn't affect much. Unlike most vampires, she was simple. She wasn't picky either and rarely had feeling for her intended victims. She was respected for this and was a favorite of Dorian, the Dorian that will probably be very mad at the fact she didn't get a victim last night.

As she walked toward the dark forest in which some of her clan resided she thought about David. Why hadn't she killed him? She doesn't know. Something about him made her stop and think of what to do. In all her years this was only the second victim she passed up. And her first was only because the women died before she could get to her blood.

She was sick of walking. Mina glanced around quickly to make sure the area was clear before making herself into a bat and flying off into the woods. It didn't take her long to get home flying and, like she expected, Dorian was waiting there for her. He didn't look happy.

Dorian, or as only people outside their clan called him, Dorian Lupus, was a handsome man. With 325 years of immortality and vampirism in his past he was head vampire of the Ketsueki clan. He was a violent man who you didn't want to anger. But despite all this, Dorian could be a very caring person and when it came to someone he liked he worried about them.

This was Mina's case. Somehow she had gotten Dorian to be incredibly nice to her. As soon as she revealed herself in her more human form Dorian walked over and stood menacingly over her, "You didn't get a victim last night, you know even one night without blood can kill one of us. I don't want to lose you Mina, you mean a lot to me." At the same time he was speaking these kind words yet another vampire showed up, Lucifer. Dorian immediately turned away from Mina telling her to stay there. His eyes had gone blood red and Mina watched as Lucifer saw this look and immediately cowered behind a large rock.

"I'm so sorry, so sorry, please Dorian, don't..." He was cut off as Dorian slashed at him with his sharp nails wounding him. The cut healed within seconds and the pain was gone but Lucifer still cowered. He knew the power Dorian had and knew that if he really wanted to he could easily kill him.

"You're lucky tonight; I'll let you off with a warning. But I don't want you ever telling a human what you are. If she hadn't been shot right after you told her, trust me, you'd be dead too." He scowled, and then turned back to Mina, the anger in his eyes dying down, "Now you, I'm just worried about."

"I'm fine; I promise I'll make up for it tomorrow night. I just couldn't kill the man I had met." Dorian smiled.

"You visited David's house." Mina looked at him in surprise.

"How did you know?"

"I've been watching David for some time now. I've been tempted to kill him but, like you, couldn't. He's an interesting mortal, I must say. And he has talent. I'd love to make him a vampire but I'd have no way of doing it. Our clan forbids any forceful attempt in making someone one of us. I feel he should be here but I have no way of convincing him." Dorian stopped talking and seemed to think for a moment, "You...he liked you, Mina, didn't he?"

"I don't know, I mean, he was nice but I'm sure he would have done that for anyone."

"But I know something you don't." She listened intently as he continued, "He watches you every night. He would sit at his window at night and watch you as you walked from house to house."

"Why did you never tell me this?"

"I knew you'd come across him one day and I knew you wouldn't kill him. I just wanted to wait until it was the right time and only present actions can answer questions about the future." Mina looked at him quizzically, "What I'm saying is, you can't predict the future until the future becomes the present. But you can make assumptions and you can guide people in a direction that can change that future. You didn't know it but I did this for you."

"But, why?"

"I need to make David a part of us. He would be a very powerful advantage to our clan. I can feel it. And I need you to convince him to join. Do whatever it takes, but I need him here."

"I'll do what I can, Dorian, if it's best for the clan." He put his hand on hers.

"It will be. A war in upon us that will determine what clans will survive and we need to be ready."
