53 years had passed since David had become a vampire. He had become a strong vampire, stronger then most at his age. Dorian was proud of how he had trained David, he knew that one day David would take over and govern the clan well. But the war was still upon them at the time and 23 of those years had passed without much word of anything happening. Then a violent surprise attack by some Desu began what would turn out to be the biggest war in vampire history.
30 years were spent in battle against the Desu clan. Dorian, believing they could win, ordered his clan members to attack full force but they were met with a group of Desu and ally clans that was many time larger then their own. Dorian ordered them to battle anyway and the odds seemed on their side at first but the war had turned strategic and the Desu had devised many plans to drive the Ketsueki clan out of their home. The war went on most of the time with large gaps of suspense, both clans never knowing when the other would strike.
By 1830 the war was drawing to a close and only few vampires fighting for the Desu remained. Dorian's prediction about David had proven true, as it was David who killed many of the Desu, creating an advantage for the Ketsueki. Dorian watched proudly from the side as David led the clan knowing that David was his and would do anything for him, just as he would do anything for David. Their love in the beginning had just grown during the war and they knew that if one died the other wouldn't last long. They stayed alive for each other. This is what gave them the advantage when the final battle began.
It was 1834, the remaining Desu, only 18 out of the original 78 stood up against the 16 Ketsueki. David and Dorian stood strongly in front smiling. They knew they had the advantage even with less on their side. The clans charged, wooden spears in hand. It wasn't long before David saw a spear hit Dorian and Dorian collapsed on the ground. Cassiel ran to Dorian with David following, "GO DAVID! FIGHT! I'll take care of him." David looked down tears in his eyes, Cassiel put his hand on David's arm, "Trust me, I'll heal him. It's your job to take out the bastard that hurt him. Go, do it for Dorian." David wiped the tear from his eye and grabbed his own spear running back out into the battle with a rage greater then anything he'd ever felt. The rest of the Ketsueki vampires had gotten the Desu down to 13. One of them caught site of David and immediately cowered. The look in David's eye was a look of total anger, his eyes a dark blood red. He lunged at a group of Desu who were trying to escape his path but David easily caught up and slammed the spear through them. The 3 vampires collapsed their dark blood spilling from their pale bodies. David grabbed his spear and continued attacking any Desu that got in his way; no one hurts Dorian. With the other's help they had gotten the Desu down to only 5 and the group cowered surrounded by the still strong 16 Ketsueki, "We surrender!" The Ketsueki backed off allowing the 5 remaining to stand up. They were led back to the circle of stones, or what remained of it, for it had been destroyed in the battle. The Desu agreed to back off their territory.

David sat on the piece of rock that was once Dorian's chair and cried. Cassiel had not returned and David was now positive Dorian had been killed. He felt a hand on his shoulder, "David, it'll be ok, you know Cassiel will take care of him. He knows what he's doing." It was Mina; David smiled. Mina never failed to make him feel better. David wiped his eyes and looked over at Mina.
"You're right. He'll come back." And sure enough, at that moment, Mina noticed Cassiel running towards them. She burst through the cluster of clan members standing nearby and hugged David, a sad look in her eye. David almost tore her off of him but then realized who it was, “DID HE MAKE IT?!" David shouted, "Please, oh, please, tell me he made it." Cassiel started crying.
"I'm sorry, I couldn't save him. As far as I know he's...dead. I'm so, so sorry David, I know you loved him." David pushed Cassiel off of him and collapsed on the ground tears running from his eyes. Mina and Cassiel knew not to bother him now. He needed time alone. They walked away slowly, crying for Dorian but they knew, even though everyone would be sad, no one would feel the pain as much as David. They all knew he was in love.
David kneeled in the dirt with his head in his hands, "I can't stay here anymore." He said out loud to himself, "I need to forget about him, somehow. I need to leave." David wiped his eyes and stood, he would leave no matter what. He couldn't stay in a place where everything reminded him of Dorian. But where would he go? David sat on the rock nearby and thought about what to do, he felt the tears coming again and just let them flow freely.
